Harbourview in Brick Bay, Roatan-Restaurant Review

We heard about Harbourview and being so close to our home in Palmetto Bay on Roatan, we decided to try it on our last visit to the island.. They only opened in April 2017 and still have some kinks to work out. There is a very limited menu and even the things on the menu we ordered, they didn't have, such as shrimp, potatoes, chips for the guacamole. That being said, we still enjoyed what was finally produced. When I say finally, I do mean it, bring your patience. While I realize this is island time, it took over an hour to get our appetizers. Luckily, the setting overlooking the harbor was beautiful and there was a great breeze. However, who ever thought that sitting on chairs made of tree slices was a good idea needs to have their head examined. We started with some really great onions rings and tasty guacamole with fried plantains. My daughter had a chicken quesadilla that didn't look like a quesadilla but she said it was ok. (Sorry but that was all I was getting from an almost 13 year old that night.) My husband and I had the lemon pepper snapper which was very good. It was fried which I didn't realize the menu indicated but not greasy at all and a very good flavor. It came with 2 sides, both of us got a green salad and those great onion rings again as they were out of our 1st choices. The prices are very reasonable and management came over twice to apologize for all the issues. We will return.

When on the island, rent our recently updated 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home with private pool, mere steps to the white sand beach of Palmetto Bay.

Ixora Restaurant, Palmetto Bay, Roatan-Restaurant Review

Another wonderful dinner at Ixora Restaurant at Palmetto Bay, Roatan. The setting was perfect, a nice breeze and some great, live island music. We were so busy drinking delicious monkey lala's and pina coladas that we missed the sunset. The food more than made up for the missed sunset. We started with some crispy fried calamari with a spicy dipping sauce. My only complaint was I wish there was more of it, it was so good. My husband and daughter had the steak that they proclaimed delicious. I had snapper with onions, peppers and tomatoes that was so moist and flavorful, probably one of my favorite dishes this week. (It wasn't on the menu but since I didn't like the options offered that night, the chef was so accommodating and made me snapper.) All entrees came with vegetables and french fries, mashed potatoes or dirty rice. The fries were great, hot and crispy and I tried my daughter's dirty rice and that was wonderful too. No room for dessert.
Ixora set for a wedding feast.

The dock dressed up for a wedding.

The Splash Inn, West End Roatan-Restaurant Review

We had friends visiting and decided to try a different restaurant, The Splash Inn in West End, so we could also be in town for the fireworks, since it was July 4th. Upon our arrival, the restaurant was very crowded but we were accommodated quickly. Two of us ordered the snapper fillet and it was delicious. It was so flavorful, topped with sauteed mushrooms, onions, olives and some other vegetables. It came with plain white rice, (which I still don't understand but many restaurants here serve it that way), french fries, fried plantains, and a small green salad. It is definitely something I would order again. Another ordered the pasta Bolognese, and while not tasting like a true Bolognese, was very good. Two others ordered the pizza and it was a huge disappointment. While the sauce and cheese were tasty, the dough/crust was a horror. It tasted like the kind of pizza dough from a frozen boxed pizza. (And we know pizza, having our own wood fired pizza oven at home and living in the NY/NJ area where the pizza is almost as good as the pizza in Italy.) These pizzas just didn't live up to the reviews we had seen. The restaurant is worth keeping on our list but we will just stay away from the pizza

Roatan and the Cruise Ship Industry

An interesting article about the rise of the cruise ship industry in Honduras, and more specifically in Roatan. A cruise is a great way to get a taste of this beautiful island. Once you do, you will want to come back for a longer stay. When you do, stay at the Tropical Garden Villa, a 3 bedroom, 2 bath villa at the beach with a private pool, all in the gated community resort of Palmetto Bay.

My Roatan Restaurant Reviews, Mid Island

Roatan by a local artist
Roatan, a small island in the Caribbean, has a host of delicious restaurants serving a variety of cuisines. Even though we own a beautiful home on the island with a gorgeous updated kitchen with all the bells and whistles, we are on vacation when we are there, so we tend to eat breakfast and lunch at home but eat dinner out.
These are some of our favorite restaurants in French Harbour and locations east of there.  Our favorite restaurant, and the one we always go to our first night on island is Romeo's in French Harbour. It is an Italian restaurant on the south shore, with a beautiful outdoor covered seating area with a pretty view. The food is outstanding, as is the pizza, as they have a wood burning pizza oven. Their many fish offerings are delicious. The service is warm and inviting, and the menu is varied enough to satisfy everyone.
Another favorite of ours is Temporary Cal's Cantina. It is along the main road, east of Parrot Tree Resort. The food is very good and the view is outstanding. Try the jalapeno fish. Be warned however, they only take cash and are not open on the weekends.
Another good restaurant is Gio's in French Harbour. (There is another location on the west side of the island in Flower's Bay.) It sits on the water, has a nice view and good food. The outside patio is a bit rustic but that only adds to it's charm. Try the garlic shrimp.
If you are getting tired of eating all the delicious fish and just want a steak, try the Pineapple Grill at  Clarion Pineapple Villas. There is no water view, unless you count the pool but there is plenty of seating both inside and outside on a covered porch. The decor is fine if uninspiring. and they just recently added a soup and salad bar that comes with every entree or you can order just that. It is worth trying for that as I was not impressed with my fish dinner yet everyone else loved their steaks. They also have a bar serving bar food that I am told is good.
Sky Pizza, in Pristine Bay with a gorgeous view has been closed for awhile but I just found out a new restaurant opened in that location. We will check it out in a few weeks and let you know.
Last but not least, Ixora, at Palmetto Bay opened a few months ago and I heard it is wonderful. Certain nights of the week they have entertainment and pig roasts. Can't wait to check it out.
If you are planning a trip to Roatan, rent our beautiful, Bali inspired, 3 bedroom villa with private pool in the gated Resort at Palmetto Bay with one of the longest white sand beaches on the island.
